Illness... Empty
PostSubject: Illness...    Illness... EmptySat Mar 21, 2015 7:36 pm

It had been a couple of weeks since Dymas had risked his life and had been rescued by that brave servant girl. She had been working as his new personal maid since then. She was learning her job quickly, though he feared she still had to figure out some of her duties. Not a big deal, he was quite a patient man.
He was sitting at his desk, sorting some documents he had received, but the task was resulting heavier than usual: he felt tired, he had been feeling tired for quite a few days. So terribly tired... He could probably use a little rest before he'd go back to sort the letters. He stood up, ready to walk toward his bed, but in that moment he felt his strength abandon him and he fell on his knees, trying to support himself at the desk

Eire was in her room. Polishing his boots, just humming to herself a little tune. Suddenly hearing a crash in the other room. Jumping to her feet immediately and dropping what she was doing.
As she ran in to her masters study she gasped as she saw him on the floor.
Immediately rushing to him. Wrapping her arm beneath his arms around his chest. "Lean on me please...." She told him gently. Getting them up from the floor.
He was weighing a little heavy on her, but she would have time to rest once he was safely in bed. Slowly but surely she got him moved there. Helping him sit down. "You are burning up my lord...." She said with a worried look. She could feel it even through his clothes. "I should get the maester...."

Not long after he found himself on his knees he heard the door opening and in no time he could feel Eire's arms around his chest. He would have refused her help, but unluckily he was in no position to do so and just let her help him, trying to weight on her as little as possible. "thank you... my girl..." he tried to smile to her, feeling quite breathless. Thanks to Eire, he could sit down on his bed. "Yes... that's a good idea..." he replied, smiling weakly again.

She helped him lay down first before she took off in search of the maester. A slight fear over her new master weighing on her mind. She didn't want him to die. Not so soon.
Following the maester back to Dymas's chambers. For an old man he managed to run when it came to it. Giving the men some privacy while the maester examined her lord.

Dymas could only lay in bed while the girl was gone, just trying to make himself more comfortable. It didn't take long for Eire to come back with the master, the girl was really quick and he was surprised to see she managed to make the old man hurry too.
The master asked many questions while visiting him, Dymas was started to get fairly annoyed but he could understand by the master's concern that this was no game.
"My lord... I fear you're very ill... you'll need rest, and I think I can come up with a remedy quickly enough, but this is serious... you shouldn't move from bed until you are fully recovered."
Dymas took the news in silence. It surely was a heavy news to take in, but nonetheless, as the master suggested he could call his daughters, he replied with a firm "No." He didn't want them to be scared, no if he could avoid that.
"But someone will have to take care of you... someone will have to make the decisions..."
"My daughters wouldn't be able any way, they are too young. Inform my advisors they'll have to take any important decision, and wait for me for everything else."
"But who will take care of you? My lord..."
Dymas thought quickly: he wouldn't want his daughters to have such a job, to see him so weak, bu then who? The idea struck him.
"Call the girl who brought you here."
The master frowned but did as he was ordered.

Eire came in when summoned. "My lord?" She asked clearly worried. The maester explained the situation to her. And she nodded. "This one will be more than happy to take care of her lord." She said. The maester telling her what she would need to do to take care of lord Dymas.
Taking the offered potions from the maester she moved to Dymas's bedside.
"Shall I help you out of those tight clothes my lord?" That was more like a rhetorical question. He should be stripped down just a little. Mostly his coat and boots.
Opening his shirt a bit so he would be more at ease. Noticing a small boil on his chest. Freezing for a moment. Thinking if she should point it out to lord Dymas or wait for the maester to come back.

As the girl approached, he tried to put himself a bit up, raising from his pillows "Eire, my girl. You have saved my life once and I need your help again: I'm ill..." but as he started coughing, losing energies again, the master had to continue and explain the situation, explaining also how it could be contagious but that he was going to give her a medical treatment as well, to prevent she to fall ill as well. The girl, though, didn't even wait for him to finish and already nodded. Dymas, finally stopping coughing, smiled lightly toward her. As the master took his leave, hurrying to get some remedy ready, the girl approached him and asked if he needed help with his clothes before she started helping him to remove his boots and open his coat "Thank you..." he wasn't feeling at ease in such a situation, but he didn't have much of a choice. As she saw the girl's reaction to the boil, he smiled lightly again "The master saw it. He will prepare something..."

Eire nodded. Continuing to get her master comfortable. Wetting a cloth in cold water and folding it neatly and placing it on Dymas's forehead to help ease the fever. Thinking she would need to fetch some more water for him when he was asleep.
"The maester gave me something that helps to calm the fever." She said putting on a brave smile. She didn't care if she got infected herself. Her life was nothing compared to his. "I could give that to you. Or would you prefer to have something to eat at first? I can go fetch something." She suggested.

Dymas really appreciated the girl’s attentions, she was delicate but she knew what to do, and she was doing her job with a strong dedication. He had to remember to give her some new reward. As she mentioned the medicine he looked at her, and shook his head when she asked about food "I doubt I'd be able to eat anything, but I'll take the master's remedy... I hope he gave something to you too, to protect you from my illness" he stared then at the girl, waiting for an answer: he didn't want her to take more risks than necessary

She wished she could tell him a lie that the maester had given her a remedy as well, but she couldn't. "This one will manage." She said moving to get some water and carefully measuring the right amount of drops into the water like she had been instructed. "This one's life is not as important as yours my lord." She said moving to his bedside and handing him the mug with a kind smile.

Dymas frowned: he had specifically asked for such a thing from the master. He took the mug from her hands in silence and drank its bitter and disgusting content, he swallowed it, avoiding to grimace in repugnance as he would have gladly done, then, handing the mug back to Eire, he talked to her "Now go to the master, tell him to give you something to prevent you to get sick, tell him it's my command and I will hear no reason."

She tried to smile while he took the remedy. Although her smile turned a bit pained at his grimace.
Taking the cup and filling it with water and squeezing in some lemon for taste. Placing the cup next to his bed on the table. "This one shall go get that once you are resting my lord." She said gently making sure he was comfortable and covered. "But I trust more in the lord of light than the maesters." She replied with a soft tone. "He has gotten me this far, and I shall be praying to him for your recovery my lord. And that I may remain healthy to take care of you."

"I said now, girl" he replied, a bit harsher than he meant to "I thank you for your prayers and you can put your trust in whoever you please, but I still won't take the chance to infect you, if I can avoid it." he continued, softening his tones. He had three good reasons for her to go: on the first place, he was actually concerned for her well being, she had been so nice to him and he didn't want her to fall ill. On second place, it was better if the infection didn't spread. On third place, he didn't like to be contradicted: she was taking care of him, but she was still bound to follow his orders "You can leave for some minutes, I'll be fine."

Eire jumped a bit at his harsh tone. "Very well my lord." A little hurt that he spoke to her in that tone. But then again she understood his concern for her.
She walked out of the room. Going to the maester and asked for the remedy. He gave it to her and she headed back to her masters room. "Here it is my lord." She said showing him the bottle. Opening it and letting him see her drink it. "Does that please you my lord?" She asked grimacing a little at the bitter taste.

Dymas could notice that his tone hurt the girl, but it was better for her to be hurt and alive than to be treated with silvers gloves and die young. He followed her with his glance while she left the room and patiently waited for her to be back, as she stepped again inside the room, showing him the remedy before she drank it, he nodded with a soft smile. "It does, girl." he replied gently to her

Eire smiled to the man. Putting the vile away and moving to him. Taking the cloth from his forehead and wetting it again and wringing it tight and then placing it back on his head. Making sure he was properly covered with the sheets.

Dymas was thankful for the help Eire was giving, but unluckily it still didn't give him much relief. He was in deep pain, his bones felt weak and his head hurt, and he was unable to rest. "My girl... why don't you tell me something about yourself? It will distract me from this pain..."

Eire was very surprised by his question. Seating herself on his bedside. "What would you like to hear my lord?" She wasn't sure there was anything interesting in her past.

"Where are you born... where did you live before you arrived here?" he asked, suggesting what she could say. Maybe if it wasn't for the pain he wouldn't have asked, but now he was fairly interested in knowing the girl's past

She stared at him for a while. Not sure how to begin. Wondering if her life would interest him at all once she told him.
Her ruby lips curled up into a smile. "Well..... I was born in Lys. My mother was a lady of pleasure. I had three older sisters. They had the gold and silver colored locks and blue and violet eyes that were desired." She gave a soft smile with a hint of sadness. Tilting her head a little to the left, sighing a little contently. "I was born with these black locks and the master was thinking about drowning me as a baby. He didn't though. Mother told me that when he was about to I grabbed his finger and opened my pretty little eyes and he decided not to do it." She paused for a while and tried to read if he wished her to continue or not.
"And I was fourteen years old when I was sold and brought here." That was her story in short.

Dymas looked at the girl standing beside him, he took a long, careful look: she had been through so much... surely life hadn't been easy on her. "I'm sorry for what you've been through." he said, and he really meant it, his voice was honest "I hope, at least, that working here is not too heavy to you..."

Eire looked at him oddly. Why was he saying sorry? She didn't think her life was bad in any way. "Why are you sorry my lord? I do not think my life has been difficult." She said her eyes blinking softly in confusion.
Blushing a little at the latter part he said. "Yes I have my lord.... When I came here I was supposed to be taken to the brothels, but when I was brought here someone told that I should be made a servant....." She looked away from him rather ashamed.

He smiled at her reply, at least she didn't see how miserable her life had been... which was a blessing, he though: at least she didn't have to face it. And now he could make sure she'd live a more dignifying life. "I'm glad this someone decided so, it surely was a wise choice." He replied with a smile, totally oblivious that he was the one taking such decision

Did he realize she was talking about him? Would he think her silly to hold that memory so dear to her heart?
"I owe them allot..." She said rather shyly. "Are you satisfied with my simple story my lord? How about I play a song for you?" She suggested. She had a small harp in her room that she had made herself. She sometimes played it when she had time. And when she knew she wouldn't disturb her master with her playing.
