Learning On My Own (Tag: Anyone) Empty
PostSubject: Learning On My Own (Tag: Anyone)   Learning On My Own (Tag: Anyone) EmptySat Aug 16, 2014 11:10 am

While it was great to be home in Winterfell, Kayley felt like she had a bit on her mind. Odette and Cato had been positively dreadful people, and Kayley was determined to teach them a lesson if they were ever rude to her or her parents again. So, she had decided to take the next step. Instead of just watching her father sword fight, she was going to try and do it herself. Of course, she wasn't sure if anyone would approve, so she took a long stick and headed towards the Hunter's Gate, where she was sure nobody would spot her. A stick wasn't exactly as good as a sword, but she was sure it would do for now. Although once she got there, she had no idea where to start. She had seen her father fight many times, but she had no idea what any of the forms were, or how to go about learning them. All she could really do was try to imitate what she had seen her father do. She gave the stick an experimental swing and it made a whooshing sound as it sliced the air. She gave a little smile. She liked that. She swung it again, imagining it cracking against Odette or Cato's head.

When they were finally back home Juliana felt more than relieved. She still loved her siblings even though she never really did have a strong bonding to them but that reunion at the coronation was just awkward and Odette even dared to fool Kayley. I swear if she ever gets too close to her again I´ll teach Odette a lesson.

After she checked on Robin and the other people that stayed at Winterfell Juliana wanted to talk with Kayley about what happened. She searched their house and the town but it seemed that Kayley was no where to be found. Kayley where are you? Having a short rest in one of the big kitchens she leaned against a wall and let out a sighn. Not only that she searched pretty much everywhere she also asked everyone she passed during the search but nobody could tell her where her daughter would at least probably be. Just then she remembered the Hunter´s Gate, a good place to go to or through in case you don´t want to be seen or be left alone. Juliana decided to give it a try and then finally saw Kayley, training with a stick.

"Kayley Stark what are you doing?", she asked after walking up to her and now putting her hands on her hips while smiling. "I searched whole Winterfell for you."

"Agh!" Kayley jumped in surprise, the stick falling from her hands as she whirled around. Her face turned red when she saw that it was her mother, who had an amused smile on her face. "Oh, just um..." Kayley stuttered for a moment, wondering if she could come up with a fib or something. After all, swinging a stick around wasn't lady-like thing to do. However, Kayley wasn't the best at lying, and she soon gave up with a sigh. "Just...practicing," she said as she picked up the stick again. Already, she felt a little more confident when she had it in her hands.

"Practicing? With a stock?" Juliana was a bit suprised but then started to giggle a bit. At least it´s only a stick and not a real sword or dagger. Even though Kayley wasn´t her biological daughter, at times like this she reminded her of herself when she was younger. She got closer to Kayley and picked up a stick as well. "You know, a stick isn´t the best weapon. But I´m glad you didn´t start with a real sword right away. By the way that moves you did earlier, you wouldn´t try to imitate your fathers forms would you?" If felt strange to see her little girl trying to fight. On the one hand she was always worried about Kayley to get hurt. On the other side she always knew that she wasn´t just like most people would think of a lady and Juliana wanted her being able to protect herself if she needs to just like she was herself.

Kayley just gave a little nod. She couldn't tell if her mother was disapproving or just simply curious. Juliana could be a stickler for rules sometimes. But that didn't mean she was totally strict. People could see Juliana's kind heart, and Kayley could too. Although judging by the questions she asked, it seemed like she had a good idea on what Kayley had been up to. "Maybe," was all she said in reply. "It just looked...interesting, you know? I mean, he moves so fast and everything seems so effortless..." Her voice trailed off, not sure if she should say anything more. Her fascination with swordplay was still something she kept to herself these days, as she knew most people didn't approve of ladies learning it. Of course, Kayley thought it was absurd. Arya Stark herself had become a remarkable swords woman, and people still got jumpy when a woman got anywhere near weapons.

Juliana put the stick back to where she picked it up and put a hand on Kayleys shoulder smiling warmly at her. "It´s okay Kayley. I can understand your fascination especially when you see Proteus fight. You know, when I was younger I also trained in secret. Of course my reasons were at first ... well you just got to see yourself how my brother and sister are. I don´t even know if they or my father was worse." For short a sad look appeared on her face. House Bolton was full of cruel and mad people, often enough one worse than the other but still they were her family too and she loved them even though she couldn´t stand to live with them. But then she always gets reminded how happy she was now with Proteus and their new family. "If you really want to learn how to handle a weapon I could show you one or two things for the basics." She reached down to the bottom of her dress and lifted it up to show Kayley her dagger she always carried with her. "To be honest Proteus teached me a few things and as far as I know I´m not the worst fighter." She let her dress fall down again and searched for a good, strong stick. When she found one she faced Kayley again.

Well, Juliana seemed okay with it. That was good news to hear. And to Kayley's surprise, her mother actually knew a thing or two herself. And Kayley could see why. Growing up with people like Cato and Odette was sure to be dangerous. "Your father was...like that too?" That was kind of a scary thing to think about. Kayley wondered how Juliana managed to become better than that, while Odette and Cato seemed to follow in their father's footsteps. Her face brightened when Juliana said she could show her a few moves. "Really? You would?" She eagerly picked up the stick she had dropped earlier. While she knew Juliana wasn't a full-fledged master, at least she knew some things. And hopefully, if she was good enough, Kayley could learn them too.

"He was." She looked down at the stick but then got ready to teach Kayley. "Well it´s better you learn under guidence than getting a lesson by life. Now then first off you need a good pose to get and keep balance." Juliana walked to Kalyey and helped her a bit to get in the right pose. "One foot a bit in front of the other. Your weight has be balanced on your lower body so you get a good hold but at the same time you have to keep light on the feet so you can move easily." When she was done with helping she showed Kayley the pose by herself. "Ready?"

Juliana only gave a short response to Kayley's question about her father, then quickly moved on to fighting lessons, which was fine by Kayley. Fighting was cooler than Juliana's family anyway. She adjusted her position as Juliana guided her to the right stance, making sure that she was firm, yet still light on her feet. She nodded when Juliana asked her if she was ready, then immediately went on the offensive, swinging her stick in a strong, but slow, arc.
